I failed to stick to my tbr this month. I am still taking part in the O.W.L's readathon but have swapped some of my reads. The Hazel Wood completes the herbology prompt. I enjoyed this book but there was nothing amazing about it. I don't see myself continuing on when the next book comes out. ☆
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice's life on the road, always a step ahead of the strange bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice's grandmother, the reclusive author of a book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate - the Hazel Wood - Alice learns how bad her luck can really get. Her mother is stolen away - by a figure who claims to come from the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: STAY AWAY FROM THE HAZEL WOOD.
To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother's tales began . . .
Many people reach out asking if they can become a certified herbalist by taking our courses. Curious about this, too? 🌸
If you're considering becoming an herbalist, it's important to understand what herbalists legally can and can't do. Herbalists cannot see patients as this would be construed as practicing medicine, however they can see clients. In the US, there is no certifying body in herbalism like there is for medical doctors, so there is no certification for herbalists. Herbalists' right to practice and educate clients is protected by our right to free speech under the First Amendment. Herbalists can educate clients on how to use healthful food, lifestyle practices, and herbs to support wellness and correct imbalance so the body can heal itself, but we cannot treat, cure, prescribe as doctors can. 🍃
What can students expect from studying with an herbal school then? Here at the Herbal Academy, we do our best to provide a thorough and sound education for our students. Upon completion of any of our foundational herbalism courses, you’ll receive a certificate of completion suitable for framing that states you’ve completed the course under the direction of the Herbal Academy. Given the current rights of herbalists and how herbal education is obtained, working with a school that provides a certificate of completion is likely to be acceptable to most. Our Clinical Herbalist Path will give you a very solid foundation from which to specialize if you wish, pursue a hands-on mentorship opportunity, and additional studies as you move forward on your path. 🌿
Want to learn more? Our FREE Becoming an Herbalist Course covers the in's and out's of herbalism including topics like certification, licensure, legal considerations + more. Click Courses & Classes in our Bio link to enroll! .

Somehow I’ve always known that I’m a healer. As a child, I was thoughtful, inquisitive, dreamy and extremely nurturing. I remember caring for the kids at school, caring excessively for my toys, caring for stranded insects that got caught in spider webs and caring a whole lot about the “bigger picture” in life.
I also remember playing with energy, having precognitive dreams, being hyper-sensitive to the physical and emotional environments around me and somehow always attracting wounded people into my life.
Spiritual healers come in many shapes and forms. Some people fulfill their calling through practicing reiki, kinesiology, yoga, meditation, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, herbalism, acupuncture and a whole range of other practices. Spiritual healers are shamans in their own right. They are people who allow the energy of Spirit to flow through them in a way that guides, rejuvenates and empowers others.
The spiritual healer is also a wounded healer. In other words, by healing themselves, they heal others. This is the absolute best kind of education available.
We are delighted to be welcoming Hamish Martin from The Secret Herb Garden to our wellbeing festival at @archerfieldwalledgarden in May. Hamish will be at the Detox Health Beauty Talks tent, hosted by Katrina Mather @thebodytoolkit and Clare Neill (co founder of @radiancecleanse) and he will be discussing “Our Weeds Are Our Medicine”. This is not to be missed - Hamish is a first class speaker and an authority on plants. He‘ll be talking about how wonderful weeds are and how they can actually be a gift 🌱💚 ⠀⠀
@secretherbgarden was founded by Hamish and has over 600 naturally grown and tendered varieties of herbs that have been used in the production of many wonderful natural products: candles, beer, wine, and herbal salts among them, as well as providing top Edinburgh restaurants with unique natural ingredients.
Hamish Martin, originally a wine merchant, began to pursue his lifelong passion for plants by gaining a Herbology Diploma. He also has a passion for all things vintage and the overgrown lowlands where The Secret Garden started have become an award-winning herb nursery, local arts centre, shop and café. ⠀⠀
With over 30 years experience in the drinks trade and a passion for creating unique tipples from glorious natural ingredients, Hamish began experimenting.
Beginning with Apothecary Rose, an ancient ingredient in tinctures and tonics, he discovered a natural reaction that can only be explained by the magic of nature: a natural colour change, the magical beginnings of Secret Garden Gin.
Over time Hamish developed many more concoctions of fine gin and hand grown herbs, then took to exploring a barn full of curious things...
Among the odds and sods and the bits and bobs, Old Curiosity Distillery was founded in 2017. To listen to Hamish’s talk, follow the link in the bio to buy your tickets for our wellbeing festival 🌟
Elderberry - healing herb with magical powers
As we are studying herbs & healing plants, I decided to create these educational wisdom birds - a toy & an educational set altogether. Each wren will be wearing a scarf representing a specific herb accompanied by educational info cards & recipes. I am hoping to have Mrs. Elderberry completed by tomorrow's Etsy sale at 12pm EST
📷 taken in night light, which is always a challenge for me ☺
