I can’t believe today you are officially out of the Marine Corps. 🇺🇸 The last 5 years have been quite a crazy journey: From doing long distance, to getting married, to deployment and now to bringing a baby into the world. But your time serving will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤️ I am so incredibly proud of the man you have become babe, and even though we’ve been through a lot, I wouldn’t change a single bit of it. Cheers to you 🍻 #thankyouforyourservice

Things like this make me think of my students. If one stops posting, I just keep reaching out and trying to contact them, not to get the work but to make sure that they are okay. So many of my students are deployed. They will sometimes just message me in the middle of the night cause they know I’m up and they are lonely and feeling overwhelmed over there. If you have friends who are vets or active duty, reach out. It’s not always easy for them to ask for help.
4/21/19. Easter Sunday hike! The Recruit Instructor Team surveyed the trail we'll be using for next weekend's Core Values Hike with our recruits, who are two weeks away from graduation. Several other Young Marines volunteered to join us. While we were there, we went to a place we call Mini-Suribachi, which was given its name in 2012 by our Unit Commander, Chris Chinchilla. There, with permission, the Young Marines scattered sand brought back from the island of Iwo Jima (home of Mount Suribachi, the site of the famed USMC flag raising in World War II). The sand was brought back by QHYM's YM/MGySgt William Daniels, who traveled to Iwo Jima in March as a Jimmy Trimble scholarship winner. (His brother, LaFrance, also won the scholarship the year before, and we had this same ceremony at that time, too.) Thus, we brought a little bit of history from one part of the world to the other, and tied together this monumental moment in Marine Corps history to the place our recruits experience the "transformation" to Young Marines. It was a fun, productive, and meaningful day! #YoungMarines#USYoungMarines#QuartzHillYoungMarines#QHYM#JuniperHills#DevilsPunchbowl#AntelopeValley#SoCal#CA#USA#leadership#discipline#teamwork#motivation#hike#hiking#weekend#IwoJima#WWII#semperfi#oorah!

To play baseball at the next level is one thing, but to play baseball as well as serve your country, that takes a special person.
