I was glad to finally get my first red foxes thanks to my daughter who saw them on her way home. Anytime she hears of a red fox she let’s me know because she knows how long I’ve wanted to get a picture of one. Thanks hon! I wish I could be a little more cheerful about this image but the sad fact is the mother birthed and is raising these kits in a culvert right on a really busy road. I kept wondering why they stay in this culvert instead of moving on. When I got this shot late one evening I saw why. At least one reason anyway. Two children that live across the street from the culvert came out of the house and walked across the street and dropped cut up hot dog meat near the entrance. The children’s parents weren’t out so I spoke kindly to the children from my car and told them by feeding them the kits lives are endangered by keeping them near the road, and even in the road, because they’re waiting for food. Plus this removes the fear of humans from them. They kind of hung their heads and said ok and went back home. I felt bad for the kids and foxes, they meant good but it’s never good to feed wildlife. They didn’t know. I hope they don’t feed them anymore. Perhaps I’ll take them this print so they’ll always remember to protect our wildlife. Please remember if you ever hear of someone feeding wildlife share with them why they shouldn’t. There are several good websites you can google on why not to feed wildlife. One is USDA Don’t feed the wildlife.
Hoping everyone has a wonderful Friday and Memorial Day weekend!

On Thursday some good friends of ours called and asked if we could come and spend the weekend with them in their house in the mountains. I can tell you there was no need for arm twisting. What a treat. For me it doesn’t get much better than being immersed for a time with mountains, creeks and rivers all around. As nice as it is to be surrounded by God’s handiwork the most important thing is the value of friendship. These friends loved on us by inviting us into their home for the weekend. Loving people well is what Jesus did.
When I was as far away from Jesus as I could get my brother Randy, who loved Jesus, would come into town and would spend time with me. You know what he did when we were together? Just hung out! Yeah that’s it! There was no “hey Dan you know you need to give up the drugs and alcohol” talk. There wasn’t any “hey Danny you really need to get in church” stuff. He just wanted to be with me. Sure he wanted to share what the Lord was doing in his life and offer me the hope he had within him but he knew he had to earn my trust first and he did that by loving me well. There isn’t room here for this but please read Luke 5:29-31. For Randy, Jesus was his example. Jesus said, “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”” John 13:34-35. So how are we doing? How will the world know who we are? Are we building trust with others? Are we loving others well?
Wishing each and everyone the best of Sundays! 😊
On this Mother’s Day I want to honor my 93 year old mother who is one wonderful mother! First I want to say thank you Mom for putting the Smokies in my blood. From the time I was born she and dad took me to the mountains and as a result now it’s in my kids blood. Thankful.
Being 93 hasn’t slowed Mom much. She still drives to church and goes to the mall to shop for 2-3 hours at a time and wherever else she thinks she needs to go. She’s amazing in many respects but I think of how she loved me when I was going through the many seasons of my life in my younger years and how she never gave up on me or my brothers as we navigated through the changes in our lives is pretty incredible. Many of you know exactly what I’m talking about. You also have/had a mother that always put herself last. It was never about her! Mom still bakes pies and takes them to neighbors or has them over for pie and coffee. She visits friends that are not in good health and frequently picks up her near deaf friend and takes her to lunch. She calls and visits a cousin who’s dying of cancer. She checks regularly on her three boys and wives, and is crazy about her seven grandchildren, her fifteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She misses her husband of 72 years terribly. She tells funny little jokes and loves to laugh and if you tell her a joke she doesn’t get then she just laughs and laughs and then with a straight face will say “I don’t get it”. She prays unceasingly and reads her bible daily and loves Christ’s church. She loves Jesus and wants people to know Him and understand His great sacrificial love for them. That’s my mom! Happy Mother’s Day Mom! And HMD to all you mothers out there! Jesus loves you! 😊
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Eph. 2:4-7

A little bear and a big ole tree! By now, you’ve probably noticed, there’s no shortage of photographs of spring bear cubs. We are very blessed with some of the best wildlife photographers around and they consistently deliver images of wildlife for everyone’s enjoyment on FB, Instagram, etc. Perhaps when some people think of getting pictures of wildlife they think you drive around in the car and hopefully a bear family will cross the road in front of them or someone else will have spotted them and and there they are for everyone to get a snapshot. You’ve seen videos lately and that in fact does happen. This is the exception more than the rule however. The photographers I know that provide lots of these images often spend hours in the woods hiking game paths, hiking trails and even bushwhacking to find wildlife and not without its risks. Normally they’ve gotten up hours before daylight and traveled to the park to get out early and stay late and this is includes, for some, hours of driving from out of state.
It’s the same with landscape photographers that sometimes hike miles in the dark to get to their destination for a sunrise or hike out in the dark after a sunset.
It’s not always easy so I was thinking about the photography community around here and my hat goes off to these people. I’ve learned a ton from many of them and really appreciate them all and aspire to be like them in many ways.
But most importantly, don’t forget we have an awesome Creator God that has given us the rich blessing of enjoying all He has created, “The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours—you created it all,” Psalms 89:11 NLT.
I hope you enjoy your Friday and your weekend and all the little bear pictures your eyes can take in! 😊
On Sunday mornings I try to always post landscape pictures to help convey a message on my heart and it doesn’t always work out. This morning for example is intended to instill peace and tranquility as you start your day and to lead your eyes and mostly your heart to the realization that all the beauty you see around you is a result of God’s splendor and creativity, “O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!” PSALMS 8:1. This desire applies to my post every week.
As God is so creative I likewise hope you are in your thinking because sometimes my photographs don’t quite accomplish what I set out to do and they leave a lot to be desired in portraying his glory. But with God that’s never true. The point is God hasn’t held back anything, not even His Son, in revealing Who He is and how He loves us and what He’s doing in his creation, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse,” ROMANS 1:20. So my hope each week is that you will see how much He loves you, at least in one way, by the way in which He has given us a stunningly beautiful and incredible world to live in.
I trust each of you will have a joy filled week. For some that isn’t going to be easy due to life’s hard knocks so look around you and provide some love and encouragement to someone. 😊🙏🏻 #gsmnp#smokymountainphotography#greatsmokynps#greatsmokymountainsnationalpark#nationalparks#nature_brilliance#naturephotogrqphy#allnatureshots#bestnatureshots#landscapephotography#landscape_captures#explore#outdoorlife#outdooradventurephotos#landscapes#capturelandscapes#instagramtennessee@instagramtennessee#865life@865life#smokiesfriends@smokiesfriends
