thefashionfitnessfoodie lucy mountain what is the future of influencers? a v juicy question which I got asked last week.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Are we losing validity?⠀⠀
Are we losing trust?⠀⠀
Are we becoming irrelevant?⠀⠀
Will Instagram collapse into a little ball on the pavement and die?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Here’s the way I see it.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Shit moves on.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Remember MySpace Tom?⠀⠀
Remember when all that mattered was getting your ‘other half’ to share the love with you on Bebo?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Well now an egg is the most popular person on the internet. (For now.)⠀⠀
And who needs to rely on real life mates, when you can pay a robots to like your pictures so you can hit five-digit likes on Instagram.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
And it doesn’t just take years for things to dramatically change.⠀⠀
What’s popular or TReNDY can change within a matter of days now too.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
(cc: James Charles and a bunch of drama I don’t rlly understand because Youtube is a mystic underworld of highlighter sticks and people making food choices based on what the person in front of them ate. Ahhhh.)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
But !⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The fact that trends can be so fleeting on social media isn’t necessarily a bad thing.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
In fact, I think it’s exciting.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Apps, content production and best forms of delivery might change - but when you focus on your message and what the incredible, tangible thing you’re giving people is, you’ll always be able to adapt. And this runs through to *all* careers and roles in life.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Because although I do want to stab a miniature fork in my eye whenever I see people taking advantage of their audience, these are the kind of ‘influencers’ which I believe will soon die out.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Because as this industry gets older, it’ll get wiser.⠀⠀
And there will be less space for those who are only in it to sell detox fucking tea.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The future of influencers as we know it will change.⠀⠀
It’s already changing.⠀⠀
But giving real, genuine value is timeless.⠀⠀
(Just stay a bit TeChY ™)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Anyway. Throwback to me showing you what I do in a day as an influencer x

thefashionfitnessfoodie lucy mountain ’Social media isn’t a real job.’⠀
⁣⠀
That’s cool. I’ll just be over here, making a living from doing shit that makes me really, really happy.⠀
⁣⠀
Honestly, it was wasn’t that long ago that I was posting pictures on this app, semi-embarrassed to even refer to myself as a ‘blogger’. I didn’t feel wOrtHy of such a title. I just posting things on Instagram with unnecessarily long captions.⠀
⁣⠀
I never even *once* considered I’d make a career out of this.
Not even two years ago.
Not even one year ago.⠀
⁣⠀
Today, social media is now my full-time job.
Today, I now run my own business (lol what), have self-published my own damn cookbook and built the funniest/weirdest/aggressively supportive community on internet, affectionately named after the male genitalia. (The latter part wasn’t intentional.)⠀
⁣⠀
I guess I’ve come a long way since my Tumblr days.⠀
⁣⠀
Sometimes you need to sit back and say ‘wow I’m really fucking proud of myself.’⠀
⁣⠀
Wow I’m really fucking proud of myself.⠀
⁣⠀
Don’t let anyone tell you what you should and shouldn’t pursue as a career. People will try and keep you in a box to make themselves feel better - but don’t you dare let anyone make your dreams feel silly or insignificant. We only have this one life. thefashionfitnessfoodie lucy mountain HI FUN STORY: when I first posted this image last year, this title said ‘wtf is the 80/20 rule’... not ‘thing’.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The reason I tweaked it is because - to me, this mindset doesn’t feel like a rule. Rule are things you need to abide by and if you don’t, you’re breaking it. And depending on the action taken, getting a lunch time detention with Miss Samson or taken to court. Idk.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
This isn’t what the 80/20 mindset is about. If we’re being truthful, it’s just a glamorous way of saying ‘everything in moderation bbz' (but under the guise of being more tailored because #numbers and #percentages etc etc.)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
So wtf is it? Well it depends on the context (/fitness guru for follow) but it's essentially the idea of eating nutrient-dense foods 80% of the time, and less-nutrient dense foods 20% of the time.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The two common ways of approaching it are:⠀⠀
⠀⠀
1. ❤(For humans who like numbers):⠀⠀
Aiming to eat 80% of your calories from filling, nutrient-dense sources. And 20% of your calories from less-filling, less nutrient-dense sources. Like Sainbury’s 35p basic milk chocolate. Don’t @ me. This is a more specific approach.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
2. ❤(For humans who don’t like numbers):⠀⠀
Aiming to make approximately 80% of your food choices filling and nutrient-dense. And 20% of your food choices less-filling, less nutrient-dense. Like Sainbury’s 35p basic milk chocolate. Don’t @ me still. This is a less tailored approach.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Anyway. It doesn't need to be 80/20 everyday.⠀⠀
Some days it might be the opposite way around.⠀⠀
And some days it might be 100% strawberry glazed. donuts.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It's not this ‘rigid’ thing or principle we need to stick to 24/7.⠀⠀
It doesn’t need to be this thing you can pass or fail at.⠀⠀
It can just be a nice thought process to help you to fuel your body, get all of that important stuff in whilst enjoying less-nutrient dense food we like just cus it’s delicious.🍫⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Tb to my nails before I had dots on them xo

did u know ?!!?!!!1!?
thefashionfitnessfoodie lucy mountain alongside other arbitrary shit like: ’carbs are bad’, ‘never eat after 6pm’ and ‘sugar is satan’.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
the notion that snacking is inherently bad is really annoying and really reductionist.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Here’s why.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
‘Meals’ and ‘snacks’ are social constructs. Like western eating habits in general. ‘Breakfast’, ‘lunch’ and ‘dinner’ are all just handy labels which help us identify roughly when and what we might be eating.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
In the same way telling someone ‘hi I'm eating a meal’ doesn’t give much information on what exactly is on your plate nor it’s nutritional info - ‘y0 I'm eating a snack’ doesn’t either.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
And yet ‘snacking’ is one of the internet’s fave things to demonise.⠀⠀
(After beige carbs from 6:01pm on-wards, of course.)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Anyway.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It’s true that eating a high volume of less-nutrient dense food in comparison to high-nutrient dense food is likely to make you feel shitty and not do wonders for your health long-term.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
But this cycle isn’t avoided by just cutting out ‘snacks’ in general. How many times have you told yourself ‘I’m just going to stop snacking’?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
An apple can be a snack. A cereal bar can be a snack. A handful of nuts can be a snack. A donut can be a snack. A celery stick can be a snack. A bowl of lucky charms can be a snack. A tub of peanut butter eaten like a damn petit filous yoghurt can be a snack if you call it one.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
(Wouldn’t recommend. Had stomach pains for 2.3 days. Not cute.)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
So yeah. Let’s stop demonising ‘snacks’.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It’s unspecific.⠀⠀
It’s unnecessary.⠀⠀
And it’s just another thing society tries to make us feel shitty about.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
As always - if you're hungry, pls eat.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Snacks are literally just smaller portions of food in between your larger portions of food. And that’s okay.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
(It’s also an affectionate thing to comment under your mates IG picture. But that is largely referring to a ‘snacc’. Maybe not appropriate here idk.)⠀⠀

thefashionfitnessfoodie lucy mountain last month my mum asked me how therapy was going. Which blew my tiny mind. ⠀
⠀
Because I had forgotten I was on a waiting list for therapy.⠀
Because I had forgotten that 3 months previous, I’d broken down in my doctors office and told her I needed help. ⠀
⠀
I hold no shame in admitting that the majority of last year was a terrible one for my mental health - to the point that I no longer recognised myself. But at the time, I was convinced this was just the 'real me’. And I hated that bitch lol.⠀
⠀
Depression does bizarre things to your mind - it isn’t just about being ‘sad’. I became withdrawn, irritable, angry, selfish, bitter, resentful of other’s peoples success. Qualities which aren’t easy to accept when you’re meant to be a fun ! happy ! influencer !⠀
⠀
I didn't want to post, I didn't want to film stories.⠀
⠀
I remember one morning in October, waking up to that familiar sense of sadness, staring at my ceiling and realising I couldn’t remember when the last time I properly belly laughed was.⠀
⠀
Thinking about this moment right now makes me cry as I type this.⠀
⠀
I am so grateful I can wake up now, in my ugly bedroom and feel content.⠀
⠀
Plucking up the courage to change my career to something I really fucking love has been instrumental in improving my mental health. I stopped fixating on what I *should* be doing - and what everyone else around me was doing. I muted, I blocked, I unfollowed, I cancelled. I was unapologetically savage.⠀
⠀
But that's just what helped me.⠀
⠀
I'm not here to tell you ‘don’t worry, hang in there - it’ll pass soon!’⠀
⠀
I wish I could film a youtube video and share my ToP 3 TiPs to BeaT D3PreSSioN. But I can't.⠀
⠀
There’s no ‘miracle’ fix to improve mental health, every situation is different and every treatment will be different - be it medical intervention or not.⠀
⠀
But please, please reach out to someone. Go break down in your doctors office. (It's far more fun than it sounds, promise.)⠀
⠀
You’re not weird for asking for help if your mind is poor health.⠀
⠀
It's hard. But know there are humans in this world who’s job it is to help YOU, and bring happiness back into your days. 💫💫💫

thefashionfitnessfoodie lucy mountain if fries were stocked in Holland + Barret 🙃🙃🙃⠀
⁣⠀
Food labels; the original catfishes before Tinder. They know how to make food sound sExY.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
It *is* an easy win though. Although stating ‘free-from’ ingredients on the front of certain foods is essential for those who cannot or choose not to consume certain things, whether that’s for a physiological or moral reason, companies will often capitalise on this and put a ‘health halo’ on certain foods.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
We’re in the midst of cut-out culture, where fear mongering of certain foods and ingredients is rife. With the immense pressure we’re under to reach PeAk WeLLNeSS combined with a shit load of misinformation, slapping the words’ high protein’ on a chicken breast would likely boost sales thee days.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Don’t forget, we eat food - not labels.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Just because a food is labelled ‘HiGh ProTeiN’ and free-from-anything-which-sounds-moderately-bad doesn’t means it’s necessarily going to be the ‘optimal’ choice.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Although in most cases, legally a product will need to state the nutritional info and ingredients - companies can be clever when it comes to their marketing claims. So keep an open mind !👅⠀
⁣⠀
Food is food.⁣⠀
And different foods contain different things.⁣⠀
And different foods might be more suitable at different points for different occasions.⁣⠀
But all foods are allowed.⁣⠀
